Maths

Our next focus this term will be on numbers up to 10. We will spend time learning that the counting sequence stays the same. We will talk about how the last number said is the number in a set and 1:1 correspondence counting. We will be learning about how to count objects we can’t touch or move. We will use different objects and math resources to see numbers represented in multiple ways. This will be developed in the continuous provision with problem solving activities running alongside

Phonics

This term we will be consolidating our knowledge of units 1-2 (s a t i m, n o p). For our new learning we will be looking at units 3-5 (b c g h, d e f v, k l r u).  We will be saying the sounds and reading the words, this will help us assign a sound to symbols and in turn begin to read simple CVC words. These lessons will take place daily. As we are now beginning unit 3, we will be sending books home starting with unit 1 sounds that the children are familiar with and comfortable reading.

English

There will be lots of chances to practise letter formation linked directly to our phonics scheme. We will be reading the texts ‘Owl babies’, ‘Shackleton's Journey’  and ‘Train Ride’. Then using these to story map and write in a variety of styles. We will extend this in our continuous provision available inside and outside.

Understanding the world

Our topic for this half term is ‘Transport’. We will discuss different types of transport and how to travel safely. We will be looking at travelling and explorers who went on journeys. We will also be comparing transport in the past to transport now - we will also be thinking about what transport may look like in the future.

Expressive arts and design

We will spend time learning about what a designer is and becoming one ourselves by designing a mode of transport (D.T.). We then explore colours in art and know the different types of colours with a direct link to the seasons and trees (Art). Finally through music we will be exploring beat, pulse and speed. Before learning Christmas songs ready for our Christmas Performance!

R.E.

In R.E. We will be exploring the festivals of Diwali and Hanukkah. We will then be looking at the nativity story, through the theme of incarnation. We will be exploring what this story means to Christians and how it may be celebrated around the world.

P.S.H.E.

In P.S.H.E. we will be discussing friends and families. We will be looking at what makes a good friend and how our families are all different. We will also be doing lots of exploration around emotions and what this can look like or feel like inside of us.

P.E.

Our P.E. this term will all be about changing and the routines around PE. We will also be learning simple games that may include the skills of throwing, catching, rolling or kicking.

Our PE day will be Monday.
